Wires Down/Sparking – Multiple Locations

Churchill Fire responded to multiple reports of wires down and hazardous conditions due to high winds on Sunday, Feb 24 starting at 1120. Engine 122 responded to investigate a transformer sparking transformer at Greensburg Pike in the area of Woodland Hills High School. At the same time, 122 Chief and Squad reported to low hanging wires on McCrady Road across from Beulah Presbyterian Church.

122 Chief found a electric pole with high voltage wires leaning over the roadway. The road was shut down and crews stood by for 3 hours until Duqense Light crews arrived. 122 Engine found no issues on Greensburg Pike and responded to the McCrady Road incident. 302 Rescue also responded to the incident at McCrady Road and assisted with traffic control.

At 1520, Churchill units responded again at 1520 to Rose Drive between Churchill Road and Holland Road. Multiple pine trees had falled on wires and 3 high tension lines were down and on fire in a yard on Rose Drive. The wires were not near any structures, so barricades were put up to block Rose Drive at both ends.

Later that evening, at 1748, Churchill responded to a report of wires down behind a house on Holland Road. And again at 1931, units were dispatched again to Rose Drive for another report of wires down which was for the same incident . Both additional calls were cleared with no hazards that could be addressed by the fire company.
