Churchill Fire responded to a report of a working house fire on Grayhurst Drive in Wilkins Township, June 14, 2016 at 15:21.
Wilkins 302 and Braddock 113 crews initially on scene found a large single family dwelling with heavy smoke and fire in the ceiling and attic areas throughout the building. The fire in the unoccupied house had been burning for several hours before it was reported by a passing neighbor.
Crews from numerous fire departments from eastern Allegheny County worked to control the fire for 3 hours. Ladders from Wilkins 303, Turtle Creek 283 and Forest Hills 153 ventilated the roof and used ladder pipes to extinguish the fires in the attic areas, although with handlines from interior crews in the vaulted ceilings inside the house.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by Allegheny County Fire Marshall.
