Jack-knifed Tractor Trailer on the Parkway

Churchill Rescue responded to a jack-knifed tractor trailer during the snowstorm on January 16, 2022 18:07 along with Wilkins Station 302. 302 Deputy was the first unit on scene and confirmed a tractor trailer was jackknifed blocking the eastbound lanes of the parkway between the business 22 and Penn Hills exits. There was approx 3 inches of snow on the ground at the time of the accident and another inch accumulated while fire units were on scene.

The truck was towing an empty trailer when the accident occurred, which was prohibited at the time due to temporary snow restrictions in effect. The truck driver was not entrapped or injury in the crash.

302 Rescue and 122 Squad responded to the Business 22 exit to direct traffic off the parkway and assist stranded cars stuck between the exit and the jackknife scene. 122 Rescue responded via the Penn Hills parkway exit ramp on the eastern side of the accident.

Penndot was able to pull the tractor eastbound with a load from the parkway’s monroeville maintenance faility to reorient the trailer and the driver was able to drive the trailer away from the scene to await repairs.
